We recommend turning the water off at the tap and releasing the water pressure at the end of each watering session. The increased pressure from the water may cause unnecessary wear to the internal mechanism of the Hose Reels, and potentially shorten the lifespan. Plus, being mindful of your water usage is far better for the planet!

Yes, because the Hose Reels rely on tension for retraction and extension, the unit must be mounted to a solid wall or stable post.

You can mount a Hoselink hose reel to most solid walls: Concrete, Brick, Pavers, Sandstone, Besa Block, Hebel, Render, Stucco, Tiles, Steel, Colourbond, Weatherboard and Cladding. It can't be mounted to Wood or EPS (polystyrene foam cladding).

How you fix it depends on your surface:

• Concrete, Brick and Pavers: use a masonry drill bit with the provided masonry plugs, drilling on the hammer setting (or a rotary drill, starting on the normal setting).
• Sandstone and Besa block: drill as above, then anchor the plugs with Sika Flex. Blow out the holes, half-fill each with Sika Flex 11FC, tap in the plugs and leave overnight before fitting the bracket.
• Hebel: use a masonry bit with the provided plugs, anchor the plugs with Sika Flex. Blow out the holes, half-fill each with Sika Flex 11FC, tap in the plugs and leave overnight before fitting the bracket.
• Render and Stucco: (depending on the substrate behind): use a masonry bit with the provided plugs and a spearhead drill to start the holes.
• Tiles: use a masonry bit with the provided plugs and a spearhead drill to start the holes, fixed to a wooden backing board anchored into a stud.
• Steel and Colourbond: mount the bracket to a flat, weatherproof wooden board anchored into a stud, with a screw top and bottom.
• Weatherboard and Cladding: use the same backing-board method, anchored into a stud with a screw top and bottom.
• Plaster: (depending on the substrate behind): fix a wooden backing board into a stud, using a spearhead drill to start the holes.
• Wood and EPS: not a suitable mounting surface for the reel. Please see help centre for more details on other installation options.

Don’t worry – you can simply add an additional length of hose to the leader hose to reach your water supply. You’ll just need a suitable length of hose fitted with Hoselink connectors on either end. We sell ready made Leader Hose Extensions in 1.5m and 5m lengths, pre-fitted with connectors for your convenience. Our Hi-Flow (14mm) Classic Retractable Hose Reel has been discontinued. We do sell spare parts for this product which are available to purchase online. Currently, our Evolve model of Retractable Hose Reels offers the best water flow (roughly 22% more than the 12mm Classic model).

This hose has been specifically designed for use in an auto rewind hose reel unit and must be soft and pliable so that it retracts easily back into the unit. Although this hose is not designed for kink-resistance specifically, using a hose reel greatly reduces the chance of a kink occuring. This is due to only using the correct length of hose for the task at hand so there is no extra hose for a tangle or kink to occur. In addition, the retraction mechanism on the reel ensures that the hose is always reeled back in a straight line, so the hose does not get twisted (a common cause of kinks).

Pull the hose out and pause to lock it at any length. A light tug releases the 'stop-anywhere' lock and the spring-loaded reel rewinds itself, self-layering the hose as it goes. If it won't retract, the lock is usually still engaged or the hose is overlapped - a firm tug releases it. Persistent retraction or leak issues are covered by warranty.

No, you cannot put your own hose into the reel nor replace the hose in the reel.  The retraction mechanism operates via a spring, and is fitted at the factory.

The post depth required depends on a number of factors, including how hard packed the soil is and how much concrete is used. We suggest 0.5m as a safe depth for the post before pouring the concrete. In addition, we would recommend that the hole be 30cm square to provide enough concrete to keep the hose reel firmly in place. Hoselink's Retractable Mounting Post is the perfect solution. 

No, they are not recommended for use with hot water (besides, your plants won’t like it!). The maximum water temperature recommended is 40 degrees.

You may notice a difference in water flow depending on the diameter and length of the garden hose you were previously using, as well as your existing household water pressure. The Classic Retractable Hose Reel uses a 12mm internal diameter hose and has a flow rate of approximately 16.74L per minute. If higher water flow is important to you, our Evolve Retractable Hose Reel offers approximately 22% better flow than the Classic model.
